Our favorite Aussie twins, The Veronicas, are back at it again! After announcing a 2024 tour across the States earlier this week, the duo has released their new single, “Detox.” The pair’s latest offering marks their second release from their forthcoming full-length album, Gothic Summer, which is set to arrive in March next year via Big Noise.
The pop-rock-fueled new release skillfully intertwines elements of ska and skate-punk with the duo’s power to turn their musical prowess into poetry. Achieving a harmonious blend of pop and rock, chaos and control, the duo balances the yin and yang of the track, delving into the tumultuous world of toxic relationships. Made more powerful by the Pat Freyne-directed accompanying video, “Detox” takes on a Quentin Tarantino vibe through exquisite choreography reminiscent of 1994’s Pulp Fiction.
Of the video’s vision, The Veronicas’ Jessie and Lisa share, “We contrasted wide shots with extreme close-ups, and purposefully improvised dance scenes to encourage physical and emotional mirroring in the moment. A mix of ’60s choreography, fused with some Michael Jackson kicks and high energy, to encapsulate the fighting emotional volatility of the song. The video ends in a burst of underwater color and sinking euphoria upon the tempo change, giving in to the push-pull cycle of the song’s lyrics.”

The Veronicas will be hitting the road in the States with special guest Jesse Jo Stark. Their Gothic Summer Tour is scheduled to kick off on April 3 in San Francisco at The Fillmore and wraps up on May 5 at Los Angeles’ Fonda. Tickets are now officially on sale here.
