The Home Team Don’t Mean To “Brag” In New Single

If you ask us, The Home Team has a lot to “Brag’ about on their infectious new single, arriving via Thriller Records. Following the group’s heady success of their irresistible 2023 single “Loud,” “Brag” is a sugary-sweet, pop-infused, guitar-heavy earworm. From the catchy-as-hell introductory guitar chords to vocalist Brian Butcher’s enthralling delivery, we’re already clearing out space next to “Loud” for this track to live rent-free in our heads. The sheer addictiveness of the track’s pre-chorus, “I’m so sorry, I’ve been naughty/I’ve been keeping secrets/Something you’d know nothin’ about,” begs the question: who gave The Home Team the right to be this irresistibly infectious?

The accompanying video serves as a brag-worthy visual feast, elevated by Butcher’s charismatic smile and playful expressions. The seamless camaraderie between Butcher, guitarist John Baran, bassist Ryne Olson, and drummer Daniel Matson infuses the release with a natural, gripping energy. This tight-knit friendship not only shines through in their performances but also propels each release to new heights, making The Home Team an unstoppable force.

“After countless songs written about doubting myself, I decided to finally write one about trusting myself,” Butcher shares of the new song. “It has taken way too long to get to this point for me, since every time I ever felt like I wanted to believe in myself, it just felt like I was beginning to be arrogant. That’s the last thing I want to be.”

Butch continues, “So, instead, I decided to embrace the idea and write this facetious piece about what it’s like to be in the position that I’m in now with our music. By no means do I think our previous or current works are prolific enough to warrant that level of arrogance, but I did think it’d be fun to pretend! Hopefully, the inherent sarcasm translates since sprinkled throughout the song are little quips related to the ego that I feel like I see musicians carry with them all the time.”

Currently, Butcher is on the road with Issues, serving as their act-in-vocalist for the band’s farewell performances. Issues have two remaining shows with Butcher on January 28 and 29 in Atlanta, GA.
