The Gaslight Anthem have ushered in the change of season in some style with their new track “Autumn“. It’s the latest piece of music to be pulled from their upcoming album, History Books. The band’s first album in nine years and first since their reunion last year, it’s a collection of songs that feel incredibly necessary for the times we live in. A reminder of what life is really all about. The little moments that make the big moments all the more special. It is also a reminder of just what a special band The Gaslight Anthem have always been. It will only take one listen to “Autumn” to make you fall head over heels with it.
When singing about a particular season, you need to embody the atmosphere perfectly. Luckily, it’s a skill that the band have in abundance, conjuring images of crunchy brown leaves and brisk winds. There’s a melancholy to the track, but not in a negative sense. It’s sat within the beauty of what this season looks and feels like. Of the stillness and serenity of just watching the world around you change. It’s a beautiful miracle that we get to be a part of every year, and we should hold on to it for as long as we are able to.

Vocalist Brian Fallon has shared these sentiments, too, whilst explaining what inspired him to write the song:
“I wrote that song on a really beautiful fall day, looking out the window and thinking, ‘How many days like this do we get to see? So much of life is just trying to get by, but every now and then you have those moments where you can really feel grateful for the small things.”
