The Drums recently made a long overdue comeback. They released “I Want It All”, their first new music since 2021’s full-length MOMMY DON’T SPANK ME, earlier this year. And now, they have built on those foundations with the release of two more indie bangers.
Those songs are “Plastic Envelope” and “Protect Him Always”, shared as one singular entity. “Plastic Envelope” possesses all the floaty honesty you could expect from the band, wrapped in a dreamy cloud-like instrumental. Whilst “Protect Him Always” is more orchestral in approach, with a beautifully raw declaration at its core. Together they show off an artist without limit, creating music that touches the soul as much as it pricks up the ear.
Jonny Pierce had this to say about the songs:
“Plastic Envelope is about the pain that comes when your trust has been violated and the dread of not knowing if you could open your heart again the same way.
“The second song, Protect Him Always, is an apology to the young boy in me, who I try my best to protect, knowing that when I get hurt, he gets hurt all over again.”
And to get you all caught up, here is “I Want It All”:
