Hyperpop girlies, your time has arrived. Alternative hyperpunk artist Sophie Powers and pop-goth songstress Ashley Sienna brought their powers together to create your new fixation, “Obsessed.”

The duo made the it-girl anthem of the spring with perfectly catchy lyrics that depict the all-too-relatable chase of someone who is not “good for you.” With slick beats sure to repeat in your head all day, it’s no surprise that TikTok loved the teaser of the track well before it’s full release today.

idobi had the chance to catch up with Sophie Powers ahead of her upcoming with Waterparks beginning on March 11 in Toronto. Here, we learned how this sick collaboration came to be all the way to her current obsessions, of course.

You have many amazing collaborations in your discography, and this one is no different. How did you and Ashley Sienna team up and craft the new track?

Ashley is awesome. We share a best friend, songwriter Liam Benayon, and she is also Canadian, so we all ended up hanging out together back home, as well as in LA. The two of us bonded over our shared love for manifestation, although mostly over our dry humor. This song has some comical lines about liking someone who is bad for you, and Ashley‘s verse is about someone manifesting you, so it really was a perfect fit!

How are you preparing for your upcoming Waterparks tour?

I’m learning how to play “Bathroom Floor” on guitar so I can play it live with my set. I also am learning choreography to play my new song “Obsessed” live!

What are some of your current obsessions?

I’ve been so obsessed with hair clips recently. I recently went to Harajuku Day in downtown LA in Little Tokyo and the amount of hair clips I bought was insane. There were too many amazing artists and small businesses at that event making hair clips for my wallet to handle. I highly recommend going! Happens once a month.
