Smartpunk Records is bringing their Smartpunk House back to the iconic South By Southwest fest (SXSW) for the fifth year in a row. It’ll run March 16 and 17 at the Empire Garage and Control Room in Austin, TX, and begin at noon local time. Music enthusiasts will not need a pass to enter the free showcase.
The lineup is a blend of newer indie emo/rock with acts such as Winona Fighter, Proper., and Remo Drive to classic staples in the scene such as Spitalfield, Sparta, and Bob Nanna of Braid. With a label that’s been around since 2016 and has helped release albums from Set Your Goals and Forever Came Calling, they’ve created a space for OG punk while searching for the next rising artist in the alternative space. The pop-up will feature a skate ramp and tattoos for those who are the most committed to the bit.

“This is our 5th year of doing Smartpunk House, and I feel like every year it just gets better and better,” says label manager Matt Burns. “This showcase is everything I’ve loved about going to festivals like Plea for Peace or Warped Tour or Riot Fest. Getting to partner with amazing companies like SIMS Foundation and MusiCares while listening to incredible artists, getting tattooed, or watching someone rip it on a halfpipe? That’s what dreams are made of.”
