Singles Lost in Time: Single File + The Matches

Hello and welcome to Singles Lost in Time, where we dig through our library here at idobi (like monks sifting through historical texts) and we dust off some absolute bangers that never got their proper time in the sun.

Single File – “Zombie Ate My Neighbors”

Single File took a 1993 SNES game and wrote a quirky break-up banger inspired by it. “Zombies Ate My Neighbors” views the zombie apocalypse through a ’90s kids movie lens. It is easy to see the gang from The Sandlot or Little Giants with “trash can lids and buckets on their heads.” Charm oozes off of every note. Add “Zombies Ate My Neighbors” to your spring cleaning playlist and your bedroom will practically clean itself.

The Matches – “Chain Me Free”

It’s always a bold decision to begin your song with the chorus. However, The Matches nail the structure of “Chain Me Free”, building on the opening hook with confidence. With attitude and style to spare, The Matches deliver a pop-punk single worth its weight in faux-hawk gel.
