Royal & The Serpent Joins Forces With GAYLE On “kinda smacks”

Does the new Royal & The Serpent song bang? Well, it “kinda smacks” at the very least. The alt-indie artist teamed up with pop sensation GAYLE on this recent release out via Atlantic Records. It’s a blend of both their musical styles, adding a unique sign-off on this new era for both acts.

“Your ex-boyfriend’s music kinda smacks/And it makes me kinda sad/’Cause I can’t stop listening,” opens the chorus in a whisper-equivalent tone that mimics telling a friend this potentially traitorous secret. At the same time, listeners subscribe to Royal’s energy to coincide with their “villain era,” while this is GAYLE’s first foray into it. She embodies the spirit of a “whoopsies, told you so” conversation between a soured friendship while tapping into her sugary-sweet, girl-next-door attitude. All with Royal backing her up.

The visualizer for the drop is a vintage film-tinted two minutes. With close-ups of both artists dancing on a rooftop, the video is simplistic for the viewer to truly devour the song fully and make them add it to their girl’s night out playlist.

Both acts are revving up for their new round of tours this year. Royal & The Serpent will open on select dates for Avril Lavigne’s Greatest Hits Tour, while GAYLE goes overseas with P!nk. For more info and to grab tickets, visit Royal and GAYLE’s sites.
