Who: Tessa Violet had an incredible 2019. With the release of her debut album Bad Ideas, she made her name as an up and coming pop songstress. This year, you can find her embarking on the (virtual) Something To Look Forward To Tour.
What: Her latest track “Bored” will hit you right in your quarantine feels.
Why: It’s ironic that a track called “Bored” is the most fun we’ve had all week. The cheery pop tune will be stuck in your head by the first chorus and as you dance around to its ebbs and flows you’ll realize this is the least bored you’ve been in awhile.

“I wrote ‘Bored’ at a time when I was feeling extremely isolated. I was working from home and having trouble sleeping, struggling to build community or find things to do out of the house. Not to be super dark but I dreaded going to sleep because I was dreading facing another day. When my director Jade and I wrote the treatment for the video a few months back, I wanted to make a video that reflected that sense of uneasiness and dread, feeling like there’s no way out. Fast forward to now and it’s pretty wild this release coincides with a worldwide self isolation. Maybe it will comfort you, maybe it will drive you crazier. Either way, we’re in this together.” – Tessa Violet

Who: Toronto’s KNIFEY is heading into a whole new era with their forthcoming album. Our first taste, “Ask You”, has arrived—and now we’re counting down the minutes to Sleepwalker.
What: “Ask You” is an energetic tune that pulls from punk rock, pop punk, and good ol’ rock n’ roll influences.
Why: When you’re laying in the sun, or hitting the beach, or sitting in front of the AC this summer, “Ask You” will keep the party going. It would feel right at home on a 90’s teen movie soundtrack, so it’ll go perfect with any shenanigans adventures you have planned for the warmer months. And if we’re still quarantined? This song will make it easy to turn it up and pretend you’re doing all those things.

“‘Ask You’ went through many changes during the recording process. We knew we wanted a 1-4-5 chord progression in the chorus, and we wanted the vocals to start right off the opening note. The song was almost completely reworked around the pre-chorus melody and was very nearly scrapped altogether, but it ended up becoming one of our favorite songs on the album.” – KNIFEY
