After issuing a cover of Radiohead’s “Karma Police” through triple j’s Like A Version series last year, Pierce The Veil has officially released a studio recording of the iconic 1997 track.
“We are products of the ‘80s and ‘90s MTV era, so songs like ‘Karma Police’ live deep within our childhood minds,” the band shares in a press release. “We dug this one up as an opportunity to indulge in something comforting and familiar. Taking inspiration from the memories and emotions the song evokes in us, we created a version that reflects where we come from as a band. We were happy to discover that the song remained haunting and beautiful even when fed through distortion pedals and loud guitars.”

In contrast to the original, the trio ditches the keys-driven arrangement and approaches “Karma Police” with a distinctive focus on distortion, imbuing it with their signature alt-grunge sound. Lead vocalist Vic Fuentes infuses the familiar lyrics with an elevated haunting quality, highlighting the song’s depth and grandeur, particularly in the outro. Pierce The Veil is scheduled to embark on the North American run of blink-182’s forthcoming summer tour, which kicks off on June 20 in Orlando, FL.
