Today we talk about yesterday’s shooting at Highland Park, Harry Styles cancelling his tour in Copenhagen, and an update on Travis Barker.
Shooting in Highland Park
Yesterday there was a shooting in Highland Park, Illinois at a 4th of July parade, about 25 miles outside of Chicago. According to NPR, authorities said over 70 rounds were shot off of a rooftop from a high powered rifle. The suspect then allegedly ran off and got into a vehicle from his mother’s home to try and escape. Officials reported that after hours of searching he was stopped and taken in by the police. Dozens were injured and six people lost their lives.
Due to the way we live our lives now with instant online access, plenty of people were able to see the mass chaos that ensued because of posts made on social media. Survivors were able to update the world with what was happening in real time.
Chris Covelli, a spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crimes, told reporters earlier today that they believe the attack had been planned for weeks. The suspect, Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, obtained the gun legally. Even with their reported suspicions, there is no known motive as of now.
Celebrating the United States already felt off yesterday. People are losing their freedoms and we’ve regressed as a nation in a way that is hurting its citizens. The unfortunate truth is that yesterday’s attack wasn’t some once-in-a-blue-moon tragedy. It’s become the norm for Americans to not know if they’ll be safe simply living their lives. Celebrating America will continue to feel wrong until our leaders actually allow us to live freely again.

Harry Styles Cancels Show
Harry Styles chose to cancel his concert in Copenhagen after a shooting in a nearby mall. The artist tweeted, “I’m heartbroken along with the people of Copenhagen. I adore this city. The people are so warm and full of love. I’m devastated for the victims, their families, and everyone hurting. I’m sorry we couldn’t be together. Please look after each other.” The shooting killed three people and injured others. All we know so far about the suspected shooter is that he is a 22 year old male. No further identification or motives have been released.
Styles has moved on to his next show in Paris tonight. As of now, there is no word on if the cancelled show will be rescheduled or not. Our hearts go out to the people of Copenhagen as they grieve this awful tragedy.

Travis Barker Update
Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian have been diligent about keeping fans updated on Barker’s health. This weekend we found out that the drummer had an endoscopy appointment that seemed normal but, later that day, he experienced terrible pain. During the endoscopy a pancreatic drainage tube was damaged, resulting in pancreatitis. At the beginning of the long weekend, he let his fans know that he was feeling “much better.” Barker and Kardashian posted that they were at the beach yesterday to celebrate the holiday. Kardashian posted a good reminder after such a scary time: “Our health is everything and sometimes we take for granted how quickly it can change.” We hope you can all take a moment to breathe today and take care of yourself.
