Black Writers Week at Roger Ebert
This week RogerEbert.com kicked off their inaugural Black Writers Week featuring guest essays and virtual panels. X Ambassadors Release Video For “My Own Monster”
X Ambassadors have dropped a new music video for their latest single “My Own Monster”. The video places singer Sam Nelson Harris in a partially animated alternate universe. The song addresses themes of alienation, emotional risk, and the desire to break free from pain. Harris shared some insight on the video by saying, “The idea for this video came to me in a dream a couple of years ago and now it’s come to life.” He continued by adding, “The video feels playful and dangerous and kind of unhinged all at once, which is how I felt while making this record and video.”
Travie McCoy Signs To Hopeless and Drops New Single
Today Travie McCoy announced his signing to Hopeless Records. In addition to joining their roster, he has released a new single and video for “A Spoonful of Cinnamon”. McCoy shares, “This song sums up my experiences through 2020 and honors people in my life that I had lost.” The track addresses his battle with bi-polar disorder and drug addiction, the loss of his grandfather, and the journey to follow his dreams and heart. He goes on to say, “There was a moment where I was getting weekly phone calls to tell me people I knew had passed away. I’m bi-polar and being isolated was a strong reason to relapse, but I didn’t, and I made it through.”
