Maggie Lindemann makes a captivating return with her new 8-track EP, HEADSPLIT. The EP’s closing masterpiece is accompanied by a rebellious, angst-fueled video for the spotlight track, “taking over me.” The single, featuring Jasiah, pays homage to the iconic 2003 coming-of-age film Thirteen.

The track and its accompanying video instantly transports viewers to the vibrant chaos of the LA streets, with a cacophony of cityscape soundbites setting the scene. Lindemann and her girlfriends navigate the city with effortless cool, their steps synchronized to the blaring horns and bustling atmosphere. As the music kicks in, the backdrop of city sounds gives way to a surge of nu-metal-esque guitars. Jasiah‘s guttural screams and barks become the centerpoint, adding an electrifying edge to their girls’ night out.

Jasiah‘s primal growls gradually fade to Lindemann‘s prowess as she delves into themes of anxiety and paranoia. Lyrics like “Taking over me/Anxiety is killing me” and “Voices in my head telling me to stop/Why do I take shit over the top?” convey her inner turmoil with raw emotion. Joined again by Jasiah in the second verse, the track intensifies with his aggressively confident delivery. Echoing Lindemann‘s sentiments, he confesses: “Hello, paranoia, actin’ like my best firеnd (What’s up?)/I hear voices in my head, I bet they’ll never end.”

“The new project was a really difficult one for me in terms of exactly how I wanted it to sound,” Lindemann shares in a press release. “I’ve been listening to so many different types of music lately, I really wanted to try some new things but not be disingenuous to myself. I was heavily influenced by hyperpop and just cool, moody sounds. I think it’s a nice mix of all that’s been whirling in my head.”

She adds in an Instagram post, “my first project i’ve ever written solely by myself. this project was such a challenge for me in so many different ways, and the fact it’s here now is so mind blowing. thank you for ur patience. i love you guys”
