Jeris Johnson Prepares For “When The Darkness Comes”

Jeris Johnson is back with another genre-defying banger in the form of “When The Darkness Comes“. Jeris has been going from strength to strength over the past few years. Gaining huge virality on TikTok, it has allowed him the chance to collaborate with legends such as Papa Roach, Bring Me The Horizon and Trippie Redd. 2022 saw the release of his debut album, I WANT BLOOD / i want love, which showed off the full range of musical pools that he dares to dip his toes into. 2023 has continued such a trend, with writing, recording and producing all taken care of personally, which gives things that extra edge of individuality. Now, just in time for spooky season, we have a dark anthem to wrap your ears around.

When The Darkness Comes” pulls from classic heavy metal in a big way. Over-the-top riffs, fantastical imagery and glorious atmospheres, it wouldn’t sound out of place on a Metallica album. Though this isn’t simply a homage to the past, with intricate trap beats and forward-thinking production placing it firmly in the here and now. It’s this want and need to blend worlds and create something completely new that makes Jeris Johnson stand out from the pack. There is no fear in the face of innovation, even when you are playing with the most classic of ingredients.

Jeris had this to say about the song and how he wanted it to come together:

“I’ve become obsessed with this idea of modernizing that super classic metal sound. That European metal festival shit with a dash of 808s to piss off the old heads. I want metal to be great. So I listened to the entire ‘Black’ album (by Metallica) and thought, ‘What if I put my own spin on pretty much the best, most iconic shit there is?’ That’s what ‘When The Darkness Comes’ is.”

It appears that Jeris may be heading towards a new era with these new tracks. “When The Darkness Comes” follows hot on the heels of “Take Me Away”. A dreamy and delirious piece of nu-metal worship that once again sounds like anything else anyone is doing, it’s another example of why you cannot stop Jeris Johnson.
