Holding Absence Release Spellbinding New Track “A Crooked Melody”

Holding Absence are back with their first new music of 2023, and they continue to be one of the most fantastical assets to the current melodic post-hardcore surge.

Their new offering is called “A Crooked Melody” and feels like a culmination of their journey so far. Taking the monochrome atmosphere of their 2019 self-titled debut album and the screaming colour of 2021’s The Greatest Mistake Of My Life, they have reached a point where they are writing music that eclipses emotion altogether. As positively thrilling as it is wonderfully forward-thinking and unmistakably addictive, it’s yet another masterstroke in a series of masterstrokes.

Vocalist Lucas Woodland had this to say about it:

“A Crooked Melody is simply a song about denial. It’s the lie we tell ourselves every night to help us sleep, but deep down we know the truth. The big difference between a crooked melody and a lie, however, is that it’s sweet, enchanting and easier to swallow.”

Have a watch and listen below:

The band released a split EP called The Long And The Longing with close friends and labelmates Alpha Wolf last year via SharpTone Records.
