Gender Amplified is a non-profit organization focused on propelling diversity in the music industry. Specifically, working on advancing producers who are women and non-binary, it’s an initiative that is absolutely vital.
And they have just released their debut single, created during one of their flagship programs. That program is called the Ctrl Room Series, a music production and audio engineering camp. It allows members to get in the studio and make music, “through community development and experiential education.”
The song in question is called “Future Number” and was created by Olivia Reid, virgogabrielle and Lyd Marie at Hyperballad Studios in Brooklyn. And it is BEAUTIFUL.
Folk-leaning guitars, shimmering percussion and angelic vocals, it is a soft and silken piece of indie loveliness. Building layer upon layer of sound, it allows the group to express their production talents in as many ways as possible. The result is a triumph in every sense. Hopefully, it is the first of many gorgeous pieces of music born from this special initiative.
Olivia Reid said, “We all talked about how – if our younger selves could see us now – they’d think we were so cool! It’s about taking a moment to see how far you’ve come and celebrate the life you’ve built for yourself.”
Virgogabrielle added, “We are all connected and need to inspire and stand by one another in pursuing our dreams.”
And Lyd Marie shared, “I was really nervous on the first day of camp in July 2022. It’s the imposter syndrome we often feel as women in the industry. Writing this song together and seeing the positive feedback it’s received so far served as a reminder that we belong in the room.”
