covet have just released their new album catharsis, a record all about the wonder and colour of escapism. And they have shared a beautiful visual for the opening track, that will set you up for a truly tranquil adventure.
That song is called “coronal”, the only song on the record to feature vocals. And those vocals are used to devastating effect, with mastermind Yvette Young delivering caramel note after caramel note. It matches the beautiful twang of the guitars wonderfully, pillowing your ears and guiding you into a deep rich space. It’s a masterful piece of songwriting, one that shows off the technical brilliance of the band as well as demonstrating that they can pen an undeniable pop song at the same time.
And the video adds to that tranquil nature with colours of the ocean coating the band in the most psychedelic and powerful ways.
Yvette had this to say about it:
’coronal’ was the clear choice of an album opener. It’s sonically so different from a lot of what we’ve previously released and I wanted to start this sonic ‘journey’ impactfully. It’s the only song with clearcut vocals and the lyrics with escapism from a crumbling world. I was hoping the final line, ‘I enter the void again,” would read like an open invitation to dive into the instrumental fantasy world that follows the first track.”
