The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Alkaline Trio has made their triumphant return with their latest punk-infused creation, “Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs,” set in a zombie dystopian skatepark/motel combo. The track, serving as both the title track and lead single, heralds their forthcoming full-length album. Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs is scheduled for release on January 26, 2024, courtesy of Rise Records, and marks the group’s first new album since 2018’s Is This Thing Cursed? and our first taste of new music since 2020’s E.P.

Across “Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs,” the song exudes quintessential Alkaline Trio, both sonically and attitude-wise, but on an elevated level. Time has clearly served this trio well. Vocalists Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano are in perfect pop-punk harmony through the chorus, “I got nightmares up and down my walls/I’ve got some things that I should say/Walk like a zombie up and down these halls/Sleep like the undead, like the undead,” tying directly to the zombie punk skatepark that the group narrowly outsmarts and escapes. Their recently initiated third member, drummer Atom Willard, drives the track forward with an unmistakable prowess.

Of the track and forthcoming album of the same name, Skiba shares, “My mom worked for years as an emergency room nurse. She and her co-workers referred to exceptionally busy nights as ‘blood, hair, and eyeballs.’ Well, we’ve been busy making an exceptional record we refer to as Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs, too.”

“We approached this new record in completely new ways,” he continues. “We built the songs together, from the ground up, in the same room, which hasn’t happened since the band started. Usually, we start with an idea somebody’s already written. This time, we had the unique opportunity to build the songs onto drums recorded at Studio 606 onto two-inch tape using one of the most beautiful-sounding and legendary consoles in rock. It has almost everything to do with how our new record sounds.”
