Britney Spears.
Sure, Britney Spears is still huge. But does the average 3-6 year old know who Britney Spears is nowadays? My guess is definitely not.
15-20 years ago? EVERY GIRL, every dude, grandma’s, grandpa’s, priests because i’m sure they heard some confessions related to Britney, knew who Britney Spears was. Britney was HUGE.
The combination of her looks, to her voice – listen to her voice, she has this sort of edgy vibrato effect she does that worked with pop music. Plus TRL. TRL was HUGE in the rise of Britney and Christina and the likes. (And you sure as hell were NOT allowed to like both. Same with BSB or N Sync, which if you bring up which is better to a group of girls after they’ve had a bunch of drinks at a bar, you can expect all hell to break loose. Real world Mean Girls type chaos happening. I’m talking hair pulling, “Accidentally,” spilling a drink on someone who thinks that JC is better than AJ. not a pretty sight)
But Britney was everywhere. (Imagine if we had Twitter or social media besides AOL back then) The early controversies that she was being too sexy and a bad role model for her outfit in “Baby One More Time,” to her literally having a snake around her next during the MTV Music Video Awards in 2001, to of course… OF COURSE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND BRITNEY HAD TO DATE. (thank you BTW Britney, because JT put out one hell of a crushing album after that. thank you for that inspiration)
aint that adorable?
Britney Would then go on to well, have some issues. I mean really, who doesn’t get married for just 55 hours to some guy named Jason Alexander?
To well, the K-Fed drama. To her shaving her head… to the infamous party girls when it was her, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton all hanging out. (NOW THOSE WERE THE DAYS)
But today we think of innocent and lovable Britney. Because on this day, August 8th, 2000… yes EIGHTEEN MOTHER F’N YEARS AGO. Britney Speared released “LUCKY,” as her 2nd single off of the “Oops, I Did It Again,” album.
This song and music video was great.
And this song still gives in my opinion, the best opening line of a song ever… “This is a song about a girl, named Lucky.”
(It also has the best sound effect in a song as well. The *Knock Knock Knock* part. Classic)
So on this day. Which I deem our very own International Lucky Day. Let us all remember this song and music video.
Go Britney Go.
