Velvet Revolver still mulling new frontman

Velvet Revolver bass player Duff McKagan has denied a report that former Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon is in line to become the band’s new singer. McKagan told Billboard.com that Velvet Revolver did play with Langdon, and that he’s “he’s f–king awesome,” but “at this point I’d have to say no” on him replacing ousted singer Scott Weiland. “We just have to make sure it’s the right guy,” he said. “Karmically, we deserve the right guy. It’s a tough thing, man. We make a pretty big noise.” Entertainment Weekly reported this week that Langdon, the estranged husband of actress Liv Tyler,… Read more »

Slash itching to start new Velvet Revolver disc

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash says the group is planning a significantly shorter turnaround for its third album. The Los Angeles rockers plan to start working in earnest on the follow-up to last year’s “Libertad” in April, almost immediately after they finish a tour that starts Thursday in Chicago and includes dates in North America, Australia and Europe. “That’s the big thing right now,” Slash says. “I’m really jazzed about doing it. I’ve been working on new ideas, and we’ve had a couple times where the guys all got together and worked on some stuff. I’m itching to see what this… Read more »

Velvet Revolver Members to be Fined for Smoking Onstage?

Velvet Revolver members Slash and Scott Weiland could be fined for smoking onstage. The band members both lit up during the concert at the International Arena in Cardiff, Wales, on Thursday (June 7). Slash and Weiland reportedly chain-smoked their way through the show, despite a ban on smoking in any enclosed space that was passed by the Welsh legislature in April. The two musicians could each face a fine of $100, while the venue itself could be fined up to $5,000 for not stopping the artists from lighting up. The Cardiff city council confirmed it would investigate the matter, reports… Read more »

Velvet Revolver Relaunching Careers

New York – OK, let’s see: The former Guns N’ Roses bandmates have exchanged one loose cannon, Axl Rose, for another who seems even more volatile, Scott Weiland. And rock critics are placing bets on whether Weiland can get through a worldwide tour without winding up in either rehab, jail or a body bag. But after three Grammy nominations and one hit album, the supergroup known as Velvet Revolver is just getting started. The band consists of heavyweights from two of the biggest – and most troubled – rock bands of the past 15 years: Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman… Read more »

Velvet Revolver's Forgettable Rock Experience – Review

After witnessing this incredibly uneventful performance by “super group” Velvet Revolver, it’s safe to surmise that they’re getting by on history alone. Like many bands before them, they feed off of what their individual names used to mean and are entirely undeserving of the glory bestowed upon them. Now, before you start firing off hate emails, read on. Given the wealth of talent comprising Velvet Revolver and the obvious success of debut album Contraband, one cannot deny that this quintet is capable of writing a few solid tunes. The problem is that, aside from purely ego centric reasons, they’re just… Read more »

Velvet Revolver Album Preview: GN'R + STP = Uphill Battle

The odds are stacked against Velvet Revolver. Their singer, Scott Weiland, is currently in drug rehab for the umpteenth time. Who knows if he’ll be a free man when it’s time to tour, and judging from his past history, it could be a struggle for him to stay clean when the band hits the road. As for his bandmates – ex-Guns N’ Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums), and former Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Dave Kushner – they’re ready to rock, but there’s some question whether the rock community is ready to embrace them. Over a… Read more »
