The 33rd annual CMJ Music Marathon will take place in New York City October 15th-19th. The event, which spans across 80 venues, aims to break new artists as well as feature established artists. Acts playing the festival this year include You Me At Six, The Sounds, The Dismemberment Plan, NGHBRS, Echosmith, Braid, and more. Warner Music Group (WMG) announced today that it has acquired, from edel music AG, a 50% interest in music publisher Deston Songs LLC. Deston Songs, founded in 2000 by world-renowned songwriter/producer Desmond Child and music industry veterans Winston Simone and David Simone, has quickly established itself as one of the industry’s leading independent music publishers. Under the agreement, WMG’s Warner/Chappell Music Inc. will acquire 50% of Deston with the remaining 50% continuing to be held by Deston’s founders. Singles feathered on MTV’s immensely popular “Total Request Live” (TRL) show will be available in compilation form March 26 via UTV Records’ “The Best of TRL Pop,” a single-disc set celebrating the stars whose videos have been the show’s staples. In response to this week’s terrorist attacks, many artists, from the Robert Cray Band to the Sisqo took the stage and had a moment of silence for the victims of the attacks. One of those victims was Daniel Lee, a crew member for the BSBs who was on one of the hijacked flights from Boston to Los Angeles, heading home to be with his pregnant wife. When The Spinal Tap performed Monday night at Carnegie Hall, it was as if the thirty-four-year-old British heavy metal band was playing for the first time in three days.
