Godsmack Goes Acoustic

Godsmack is currently in Hawaii working on an acoustic EP, which is slated to be released on November 18. The band is recording some brand new tunes for the still-untitled album, and the collection will also feature re-workings of several of Godsmack’s biggest hits. Vocalist/songwriter Sully Erna and crew are currently mulling over which of their songs they will include and what treatment to give them so they sound different from the original recordings. Erna said in a statement, “We decided to do an acoustic record because we have always messed around with acoustic versions of our music and gotten… Read more »

Godsmack Promises Safe Show During Tour

Godsmack is taking a truckload of pyrotechnics with them on the road this summer, but you can be sure it’s a safe show. According to bassist Robbie Merrill, the group uses an expert company. “The company we use basically wrote the book on it. All the fire departments go to them because it’s unknown,” he said. “It’s as safe as it possibly can because us, being in the band, are the first to get hurt. We have to have a lot of faith in the company that we use.” Drummer Shannon Larkin says he’s usually protected by his drum kit… Read more »

Godsmack Ride Into 'Serenity' With Inspiration From Rush Drummer

For the next Godsmack single, “Serenity,” vocalist Sully Erna reached to one of his idols for inspiration. Not only was Rush drummer Neil Peart a childhood role model for the singer before he traded in drums for a mic and PA, the acrobatic drummer’s obsession with motorcycles is one shared by Godsmack’s frontman. So, when Erna read Peart’s book, “Ghost Rider” – which is about his experiences hopping on a hog and road-tripping around the country to cope with the tragic loss of his daughter and wife – the Godsmack singer was so blown away he wrote “Serenity” in tribute.… Read more »

Godsmack Takes 'Faceless' Straight to No. 1

Godsmack takes over the Billboard 200 with a No. 1 debut for “Faceless,” and leads the charge of seven top-20 entries on the album chart. The Universal album sold 269,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, giving the band its best debut week on the chart. The total is easily enough to end the two-week reign of Linkin Park’s “Meteora” (Warner Bros.), which falls to No. 2 on a 30% sales decline to sales of 186,000 copies. “Faceless” is Godsmack’s third major label album and its entry bests the opening position of its last set, “Awake.” That release… Read more »

Members Of Godsmack, Screaming Trees Remember Layne Staley

While Alice in Chains – whose singer, Layne Staley, was found dead Friday – influenced an incalculable number of bands, perhaps no one echoes their legacy like Godsmack. From Tony Rambola’s jarring bursts of guitar to Sully Erna’s angry, impassioned vocal delivery, Godsmack have sonically followed Alice in Chains’ lead while adding their own distinctive edge. To Erna, Staley was more than just part of the grunge foundation on which bands like Godsmack, Creed, Tantric and Puddle of Mudd built their sound. The Alice in Chains singer’s raw urgency vaulted the former drummer front and center before one of today’s… Read more »
