The Deftones were forced by their record label, Maverick Records, to remove 49 live bootleg recordings from their website. Singer Chino Moreno told MTV.com, “I think Maverick got mad because they own all that music…it was our idea to put it up there, but I think we were maybe supposed to ask permission or something.” The bootlegs, recorded at various shows in 1992, 1995, and 2000, were available for free downloading at the site, but abruptly disappeared about three weeks ago. Still, as singer Chino Moreno and keyboard/samplist Frank Delgado discuss the band’s self-titled fourth album, they can’t help but mention how feelings were an integral part of its production. “I didn’t really feel much of anything this time around… or so I thought,” says Moreno about the album. “The mood I’ve been… Read more »

This week’s outing offers an unusual and entertaining acoustic performance by the Deftones, a band whose ear-shattering, in-your-face music won a best metal Grammy this year. “This is a group that really played into the philosophy of ‘Music In High Places,”‘ said the show’s executive producer, Parvene Michaels. That philosophy was to take the Deftones out of their concert venues, unplug their electrical guitars, microphones and amplifiers and… Read more »
