The Academy Is… Drops Almost There, Their First Album In Nearly 2 Decades

The Academy Is…, at long last, has revealed their new full-length record, Almost There, their first LP in almost two decades. The instantly iconic alternative album serves as a love letter to their hometown Chicago and the scene they grew up in, a thank you to their patient fanbase, and a tale of their journey through adulthood. Preceded by singles, “L Train,” “Miracle” and “2005,” Almost There serves as a dazzling return home to the alt space from the Midwestern icons.

Frontman William Beckett shares, “Almost Here was the beginning. Almost There is the reflection. It’s about checking in with who you thought you’d be twenty years later, seeing what changed, what stuck, and what still feels like home.”

Guitarist Mike Carden adds, “William and I made the first record at nineteen and walked away at twenty-eight. Almost There is really about everything that’s happened in the space between. In many ways, Almost There is a conceptual companion to Almost Here, in the sense that it’s the same core group of musicians revisiting their dreams from two decades ago and seeing if their teenage aspirations came true. The album is based in the present as it reexamines the past through a lens of wisdom and reflection that only comes with experience.”
