Shoemaker notes, “I’ve spent a lot of time writing love songs and break-up songs about other people but ‘Girl Song’ is a song for me. It’s inspired by the in-between moments of a new life. It’s the late-night back-and-forth pacing. It’s the moment alone in the bathroom when you’re on a bad date, it’s the standing outside of a party feeling trepidatious before walking in. It’s making new friends and then realizing you miss the old ones.”
She concludes, “Ultimately it’s the realization that you’re on your own and yet knowing everything will be ok.”

Expanding on the video, Shoemakrer adds, “I really wanted this video to encapsulate what it feels like to be home alone as a girl who is addicted to yearning; laying on the floor, eating pizza, imagining myself playing on stage with my friends in my band.”
