Following the release of his 9-track collection, SABLE, fABLE, Bon Iver has issued the official music video for the track “Day One.” The chart-topping album, which was released earlier this year in April, marked Bon Iver’s first new record in six years.

The music video for “Day One” opens with the text line, “In 2025, Bon Iver announced his retirement, and the search began for his replacement,” allowing viewers to fall into the fantasy of “audition tapes” to fill the position. Auditioners seen across the video include actor Jacob Elordi (Saltburn, Priscilla, Frankenstein), St. Vincent leader Annie Clark, Flock Of Dimes’ Jenn Wasner, Dijon, and actress Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother, The Wolf Of Wall Street, The Penguin). Earlier this year, just after Bon Iver released SABLE, fABLE, Milioti and her sparked dating and family rumors after posting a photo on Instagram of the pair holding a baby with the caption “TRUE LOVE IS A fABLE.”

“Dijon and I have become really good friends,” Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon told Wisconsin Life. “The stuff that I was struggling with early in my career, it’s some stuff that he has talked to me about. Getting attention can be a distraction. I understand why he doesn’t want to overexpose. He wants to cook the right song up. He’s being conservative. I was like that, too. I didn’t talk to people for a long time. I’m just a little more accepting, a little older now.”

Vernon continues in the rare interview, “I wanted Dijon’s timbre. I’m not gonna lie, I just wanted to get Dijon on my record any way possible. He’s my favorite artist in the world.”
