The streets of London are buzzing with TV crews as the forthcoming Harry Potter HBO Max series undergoes production. In fact, Daily Mail UK recently caught a glimpse of actors Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead, Paul) portraying Harry Potter and Hagrid.
Though the clip is short, lifelong fans of the books, films, and beyond are struggling to see Hagrid in Frost’s image.
TikTok users commented, “Hagrid never gave off homeless vibes before,” “TEMU version,” “Why does Hagrid look like he hasn’t slept in a while,” “Hagrid doesnt look like a huggable giant anymore,” and “The problem is I just see Nick frost as Nick frost lol he plays himself/the same character in literally every single move he’s in so just can’t buy into him as Hagrid.”
Many users on the video continued to comment on his disheveled, cosplay-esque appearance, comparing Frost to Hagrid’s previous actor, the late Robbie Coltrane.
Though, some are calling out the criticism saying, “This looks completely fine, a lot of y’all are just blinded by nostalgia I’m afraid” and “[Frost] looks good, I think u just want a bigger and rounded Hagrid, that’s all.”
While many in the comments of the TikTok shared their excitement for the forthcoming television adaptation, others are already planning not to watch to keep money out of original author J.K. Rowling’s already deep pockets—and for good reason.
Rowling is a billionaire. Point blank. With her vast amount of wealth, she is creating an organization that will “exclude trans women from public life,” per them. All this is to say, if you want to keep money out of a TERF’s pockets, but still love Harry Potter, pick up the books and films from your local library. It’s just that simple.
