“I’m craving a getaway from the smooth talk that’s keeping me grounded to the carpet in my room, my quiet blue tomb of you.”

Listening to new music can sometimes feel like déjà vu; many bands tend to stay within the comfortable bubble of their genre. Waterparks’ EP Cluster burst that bubble and the outcome is five songs that are both refreshing and infectious.

With the production dream team of Benji Madden (Good Charlotte) and Courtney Ballard, who has worked with 5 Seconds Of Summer and All Time Low, it’s no surprise the quality has the maturity and dynamic you would expect from a seasoned band. The song “No Capes” is an upbeat jam that you’d want as the soundtrack for any weekend party. Other tracks such as “Mad All the Time” and “Pink” have the angsty sing-along quality to fit in perfectly at an Emo Night alongside bands like Fall Out Boy and +44.

Each song is an instant anthem, especially “Crave” with its engaging lyrics and enormous beats. The EP pulls elements of punk, pop, electronic, and rock to appeal to fans from all across the spectrum. Their sound has the potential to get a crowd jumping at Warped Tour, or in an arena. My only complaint is that as an EP it left me wanting more, but hopefully a full-length is soon to follow. Cluster is too impressive to miss out on, and at only 17 minutes there is no excuse to.

Buy it, Stream it, or Skip it?: Buy it! EPs are cheap but regardless this one is worth the investment. You’re bound to like at least one song.
