Let’s not beat around the bush here—learning is cool, but school is usually much less cool. Thankfully, your homework pile will never be taller than your stack of records, and the right song can help you get through even the most impossible assignments. We asked our writers to share their favorite songs from their first year of college, high school, middle school, or elementary school for a special back to school playlist in this week’s Tuesday Ten.
The first idobi Radio “Now You Know” showcase took place at the Ottobar in Baltimore, MD on Sunday night. All of the bands put on a great show and it was a very close decision and we are pleased to announce that Who Is Atlas was chosen as the winner.
If anyone in attendance had doubts about the recently reformed Taking Back Sunday, they were certainly put to rest on October 11 in Des Moines, Iowa. Let’s hope that Taking Back Sunday stays this way for a long, long time.
On December 19th in New York City, a few hundred fans forgot all of that and took the time to relax and witness some amazing bands. Appropriately decorated for the holidays, Highline Ballroom would become home to the “How Valencia Stole Christmas†tour for it’s last night.
Occasionally, when a musician and his former band part ways, it can be detrimental; but in some cases it can cause three like souls to find one another and create something that has been burning within them all this time.
Despite frequent lineup changes, there is one common thread between each Taking Back Sunday song. “If at the end we’re all red-faced and sweaty,” bassist Matt Rubino says, describing the band’s energetic live shows, “then you know it’s a Taking Back Sunday song.” The group’s aptly titled album New Again, due June 2 from Warner Bros, heralds a move toward a more grown-up modern-rock sound, with catchier choruses and beefier guitars. Mr. Fantastic, frontman for the Marvel Comics supergroup the Fantastic Four – was the son of a wealthy physicist and grew up to become an aeronautical engineer, the captain of a starship and, um, elastic, thanks to cosmic rays.
