These Aussies have been around for quite a while, but we think this will be their year. Maybe you’ve seen them on the road with Miss May I, Pierce the Veil, and currently with blessthefall. Being As An Ocean

As uplifting as they are intense, Being As An Ocean have given fans melodic post hardcore music that quells and exacerbates their angst since their 2012 debut Dear G-D. With their follow-up album How We Both Wondrously Perish set to drop in a week, this band’s ability to tug at your heartstrings is setting them up for a high ranking position among the hardcore heap.

Roadrunner’s baby band are prepped and ready to take the active rock scene by storm with a new record produced by the legendary David Bendeth (Of Mice & Men, Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath). Sharing the stage on some of their first tours with bands like Enter Shikari and Killswitch Engage, these OC boys aren’t strangers to large crowds. Trust us, you’ll be hearing a lot about these guys sooner rather than later. (Alex Rudisill)
Hundredth

Hundredth deliver a message of hope, faith, and peace – a bit out of the ordinary for a melodic hardcore band, but it works (famously, I might add). In 2011, the band created their own charity Hope Into Humanity, where over $10,000 was raised to give clean drinking water to two towns in developing countries. With their well received dual-EP release Revolt and Resist (among their most aggressive work to date), their workhorse touring schedule, and their desire to help those less fortunate, Hundredth are proving themselves one of the most forward thinking and philanthropic bands in hardcore. King 810 are basically if Dethklok and Emmure had a baby. Yup, that heavy. The band will be bringing their politically challenging and socially aggressive lyrics to this year’s Mayhem Festival. (Alex Rudisill)
Landscapes

It’s always refreshing when a heavy band cares as much about melody and songwriting as they do unleashing a calculated assault on your eardrums. UK metalcore champions Landscapes pour their talent equally into both, creating a distinct sound that’s as raw and brutal emotionally as it is musically. With recent European tours with forerunners like Architects, The Ghost Inside, and Defeater under their collective belt, the band’s success on their home continent is poised to bubble over to North America and the rest of the world any minute now. My Ticket Home

My Ticket Home’s 2013 sophomore effort Strangers Only was not only a massive departure from their 2012 Rise Records debut, To Create A Cure. It also successfully combines elements of nu-metal, punk, grunge, and hardcore in a way that’s not only catchy, but embodies a “fuck you” attitude that would make Kurt Cobain himself proud. Their brand of self-described puke rock (hashtag #pukerock) doesn’t just make them more badass than their contemporaries, it makes them more original too – and they could care less what you think. Night Verses

Rising from the ashes of vocalist Douglas Robinson’s former band, The Sleeping, Night Verses craft blistering post hardcore that proves the genre can get as intense as its brothers in hardcore and metalcore. Their music makes it hard to believe they’re barely past the two-year mark as a band – but, if the talent they’ve showcased so far is any indication, there’s a hell of a lot more where that came from. Nothing

Shoegaze newcomers Nothing, featuring members of Whirr, Deafheaven, and Horror Show, are certainly making a name for themselves. Backed by respectable Philly-based death metal label Relapse Records, the band has stints at major US festivals, sharing bills with bands like Superheaven (formerly Daylight) and Pity Sex. Rivers of Nihil

Reading, PA natives Rivers Of Nihil define their name as “the continuation of a neutral flow of retaining emptiness; humble, egoless.” If you combine this sense of melancholy with a sound that’s truly extreme, you have opposite ends that create something special–and sort of terrifying. With a Metal Blade debut (2013’s The Conscious Seed Of Light) that only gets better with every listen, and tours supporting giants like Whitechapel and DevilDriver, it’s clear that Rivers Of Nihil will be a household name in death metal sooner rather than later.
