Singles Lost in Time: Gym Class Heroes + Spitalfield

Hello and welcome to Singles Lost in Time, where we dig through our library here at idobi (like monks sifting through historical texts) and we dust off some absolute bangers that never got their proper time in the sun.

Gym Class Heroes – “Taxi Driver”

Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes weaves a tale of forlorn love , expertly inserting a “Who’s Who” of mid-2000’s emo acts into the lyrics. “Taxi Driver” feels like a free-association campfire tale. The backing instrumentation is hallmark GCH; a high-pitched guitar melody with a funky rhythm section.

Side note: We would like to apologize for the video quality; early YouTube was an assault on the eyeballs.

Spitalfield – “I Loved the Way She Said L.A.”

Stellar bass lines, witty lyrics, and pre-emocore breakdowns show just how talented Spitalfield was. Their wit and energy translates to their video effortlessly. This is your favorite ex-emo band’s biggest unsung influence.
