Inbox Jukebox Presents: Lo’s Latest Single “Drumline”

It’s finally the weekend and Inbox Jukebox Presents is getting lifted on Lo’s new song “Drumline”. This track is pink bubblegum and we can’t stop poppin’ in time to the beat. The Nashville pop artist has created a sonic sugar rush of synths and commanding drums:

“When writing this song, the original bridge ended up being so hooky that we decided it should replace the chorus,” Lo explains. “Then, we wrote another bridge that we liked too much for being a bridge as well, so we made it the pre chorus! The only surviving portion of the original version of the song are the verses!”

“Being a dancer in the SEC and doing many seasons of halftime performances was where I first fell in love with drumlines. I’ve been wanting to incorporate them into a song of mine forever!”

She says songwriting can turn her into a bit of a perfectionist but all the extra effort Lo puts in pays off; “Drumline” sets its own rhythm and marches along with such tight precision you can’t help but get caught up. “Breakfast (my co-producer) and I tend to write Max Martin style, where you continually rewrite until each piece feels perfect. We drove ourselves crazy doing it, but I love where it ended up!”

Lo is the definition of badass: She writes, produces, and performs all of her music and works damn hard to make that happen. She taught herself how to produce her own tracks while studying at Vanderbilt University on a full dance scholarship—oh yeah, did we mention? She choreographs all of her live shows. How cool is that? Her dance background influenced the theme of “Drumline”. She says, “Being a dancer in the SEC and doing many seasons of halftime performances was where I first fell in love with drumlines. I’ve been wanting to incorporate them into a song of mine forever!”

This is just the beginning for Lo—and what a fantastic way to set the pace. She isn’t stopping any time soon so you’d better put your best marching boots on and step in time to her sound. “’Drumline’ is my second single and the first in a series of releases this year. Rumor has it a dance video for it may be released too… so stay tuned!”

Fun fact about “Drumline”:

“The drums you hear in the post chorus of the song are actually live recorded drums from a high school marching band in Texas, layered over other samples!”

Keep up with Lo:
