Leave 2020 behind and jump back to the 80’s with Charming Liars’ new video for “Impact”, which you can see exclusively below as today’s idobi.com Presents. The synth-fueled anthem matches every level of the visual, framed in retro hues and vibrant TV static.
“It’s the first time in a song where we’ve been comfortable and really excited to utilize a vocal synthesizer on a lead vocal,” the band says. “Impact” makes you want to get up and stomp your feet all the way to the dance floor, with the video’s bright flashes of color setting the hyped-up mood. “In the past we’ve distanced ourselves from this sort of thing but we just looked to the future and thought about the effect and vibe it would have on a live show and it excited us.”
“We thought the energy and the vibe of the song would lend itself well to a performance piece especially with some throwback aesthetic.“
The single will definitely make you miss the atmosphere of a live show because the energy is electric. “When we were initially playing around with the riff of the song, we all wanted something that a crowd could jump up and down to,” Charming Liars say. You’ll be itching to experience “Impact” in a live setting but watching the band perform in the video will pull you in like you’re right there with them. “We also wanted to establish a song that could start a live set. So the high energy was a priority for this song.”
The high energy is infectious—you won’t be able to get this song out of your head. “We thought the energy and the vibe of the song would lend itself well to a performance piece especially with some throwback aesthetic.” The visual pairs with the song like a spirit and its chaser, bringing a tripped out feeling like the night (and the song) could take you anywhere. “We have video concepts for all our future songs and it’s important for us to include ourselves in a video once in a while!!” If the video for “Impact” is just a taste of what’s to come, we can’t wait to see what Charming Liars do next.
Fun Fact about the video:
“Mike, our bassist and video director, planned the whole shoot while he was quarantining in the Uk. He flew back to LA and the very next day, we filmed everything for the shoot in 10 hours. He flew back just so we could film this video and the next two single videos as well.“
