Semisonic Singer Doing Solo CD

Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson is at work on songs for his debut solo record, which is due for release next year. The album follows Semisonic’s All About Chemistry, which was released earlier this year. While Wilson has been at the helm for the still-together Semisonic for the last six years, he has also contributed his songwriting talents to Evan and Jaron’s self-titled debut record, co-writing “Ready or Not” with the Lowenstein brothers. Wilson will play two solo shows in December, at Schubas in Chicago on the 14th and at the Women’s Club in Minneapolis on the 15th. He will also… Read more »

Rubin Turns To Linkin Park, Weezer After Grammys

Rick Rubin never having won the Producer of the Year Grammy was the musical equivalent of Martin Scorsese never having won the best-director Oscar. And on Sunday, two weeks before Scorsese is expected to finally get his prize, Rubin was at last honored – and then honored again and again and again. In the end, Rubin walked away (not literally – he did not attend) with five Grammys: for Producer of the Year; Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year for the Dixie Chicks’ Taking the Long Way; Record of the Year for the Chicks’ “Not Ready… Read more »

Evan And Jaron Soldier On With New LP After Producer Stolen By Virgin

Bands often have to compete with other bands when lining up producers. Evan and Jaron had to compete with an entire record label. Needless to say, they lost. “We had Matt Serletic [Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul] to produce our record, but he is now the new chairman and CEO of Virgin, so our gig is kind of out,” Jaron said last week at the Love Rocks concert to honor U2 singer Bono. “So we’re looking for producers now. We may produce it ourselves now. We’re not sure. If we can get it out by the end of the year, that… Read more »
