Aerosmith's Perry Just Wants To Play

After spending more than three decades dealing with the business that is rock ‘n’ roll, Aerosmith co-founder Joe Perry dreams of a time when he can focus on nothing but playing his guitar. Dream on. With the release of a new album and summer-long U.S. tour that starts Wednesday in Hartford, Perry and the Boston-based quintet have been dizzied by a flurry of videos, movie soundtracks, award ceremonies, sporting event appearances and collaborations with other artists. “It seems like Aerosmith has turned into a full-time job, which is kind of a drag because I got into this business so I… Read more »

One-Hit Wonder Band Disses YUNGBLUD & Aerosmith’s Ozzy Osbourne Tribute

At the 2025 VMAs this past weekend, YUNGBLUD joined Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Nuno Bettencourt to honor Ozzy Osbourne—The Prince of Darkness—through the thing he loved most: music. Introduced by Ozzy’s son Jack alongside his children, the tribute ripped through “Crazy Train” (complete with the iconic “All aboard!”), Black Sabbath’s “Changes” (the same song YUNGBLUD performed during Ozzy’s final show, Back To The Beginning), and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”  The performance left the audience—including Ariana Grande—in awe, but not everyone shared the sentiment. The Darkness, best remembered for their fleeting 2003 hit “I Believe In A Thing Called… Read more »

YUNGBLUD Offers Dazzling Ozzy Osbourne Tribute At VMAs

YUNGBLUD, in our totally unbiased opinion, was one of the most iconic performers on the recent September 7 Video Music Awards show. The performer showed up and showed out in his trademark black leather pants and donned a black leather coat as he offered a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. In fact, Jack Osbourne introduced the performance alongside his children. The singer also wore Ozzy’s iconic cross necklace, kissing it before taking center stage. YUNGBLUD kicked off the performance with “Crazy Train,” which even included the iconic “All aboard!” He then elegantly switched modes into Black Sabbath‘s “Changes,” the same piece… Read more »

Play-along video game genre amps up music industry

Tapping on fake instruments and screeching into microphones connected to video game consoles has become lucrative for both the music and gaming industries. Downloadable tunes for music-based games “Guitar Hero,” “Rock Band” and “SingStar” have become as vital as iTunes itself – and one of the last ways to expose youngsters to classic rock. The genre will evolve again later this month when game publisher Activision and developer Neversoft release “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith,” the first such play-along rhythm game pegged to one music group, instead of featuring a multi-artist compilation more akin to one of those “Now That’s What I… Read more »

Aerosmith's Tyler Walks This Way to Rehab

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, a poster boy for rock ‘n’ roll decadence in the 1970s, has entered a Los Angeles rehab facility after two decades as a passionate advocate of sobriety, according to an report. The Web site TMZ.com reported on Wednesday the 60-year-old rocker sought treatment for an unspecified substance abuse problem at Aurora Las Encinas Hospital. The Pasadena clinic’s physicians include high-profile addiction medicine specialist Drew Pinsky. A publicist for Aerosmith said she did not know about the report. Earlier this month, Tyler performed at a concert in Hollywood to raise money for a charity that helps addicts… Read more »

Aerosmith Gears Up for Tour, Live Album

New York – Aerosmith will reconvene in late August or early September to prepare for a tour that will begin in the fall, guitarist Joe Perry told Billboard. The group also has begun sifting through material for a prospective live CD/DVD. “We’re trying to find a show that has been recorded from beginning to end,” Perry said. “That’s something the fans have been requesting: a stone cold live record with a video.” “Some of the shows we’re looking at are from the last year, but who knows,” the guitarist continued. “We just heard about somebody who had a bunch of… Read more »

Aerosmith Returns To Roots Music

For their latest album, veteran Boston rockers Aerosmith decided it was time to return to their blues roots. Thus, Honkin’ On Bobo – possibly the most memorable title of 2004 – was born. The 12-song disc, released March 30, saw Aerosmith tackling old blues/roots covers such as Muddy Waters’ I’m Ready and Mississippi Fred McDowell’s You Gotta Move plus one Aerosmith original, The Grind. Drummer Joey Kramer, down the line from San Antonio, Tex., prior to the band’s Thursday night stop at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, said the concept has been in the works for a long time. “The new… Read more »
