Pennywise Inks Landmark Partnership With MySpace Records

Back in 2001, Pennywise called their album Land Of The Free? (the question mark pointed out the inequities of modern existence). Now, in 2008, Pennywise–one of punk’s most credible and influential bands, who’ve sold over three million albums worldwide–will be giving away their next album for FREE. Beginning March 25, 2008, fans around the world will be able to obtain a high quality, DRM-free download from MySpace for a period of two weeks. Punk Vets Pennywise Team with MySpace

After more than 15 years on Epitaph, punk troupe Pennywise has left the label for different, digital pastures. A high-quality audio version of the album will be made available for free digitally March 25, sans digital rights management, to MySpace users who befriend mobile distributor Textango through the popular Web site. Pennywise's Troubles Seem So Far Away On 'Yesterdays'

On Pennywise’s self-titled debut, singer Jim Lindberg screamed about “Living for Today.” Thirteen years later, the Southern California punks still live for those days, as demonstrated by their latest single, “Yesterdays.” “As you get a little older, you get a lot more responsibilities, so it’s kinda like a retrospect of when things were easy,” bassist Randy Bradbury said of the song, a favorite of tastemakers KROQ-FM. “All you had to worry about was getting home on time, getting something to eat, not making your parents mad and getting good grades.” “Actually, all that stuff he said was a lie, because… Read more »

Footwear company Vans Inc. is making one more giant leap into the music business, teaming up with Pennywise punk rocker Jim Lindberg to form Vans Records, a label that will mine the lucrative skateboard, snowboard and surf culture. The Santa Fe Springs, Calif.-based firm is no stranger to the music world, having sponsored the Warped Tour for the past six years. The road show drew more than 450,000 fans in 2001, and has helped Vans capitalize on the synergy between music and the seven “core sports” for which it makes footwear and apparel: skate-, surf-, wake- and snowboarding, as well… Read more »

Offspring, Incubus Lead Fierce Inland Invasion – Review

If one point was driven convincingly home at this all-day modern rock festival, it’s that southern California has a lot of really great bands treading the boards these days. Six of the best of the bunch (which also includes Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, 311 and even Blink-182) headlined this charity gathering, sponsored by L.A.’s KROQ-FM, and Levi’s – and each band’s strong performance lived up to the considerable preshow hype. The post-Sublime reggae-dub bunch Long Beach Dub Allstars kicked off the action on the bigger of two stages around 4 p.m. with 30 minutes of laid-back tracks from their… Read more »
