Yahoo! Unveils Its New Music Property, LAUNCH

Yahoo! Inc. today announced the debut of its new music destination, LAUNCH, Your Yahoo! Music Experience ( This new property is the result of Yahoo!’s acquisition of LAUNCH Media, Inc., now a wholly-owned subsidiary, and its subsequent integration with Yahoo! Music. Bringing together the best elements of both sites, Yahoo! has created the web’s premier music destination, offering the most comprehensive music-related content, features and information available.

This represents a significant initiative to give consumers the ability to watch, listen to and control their own music experience directly on Yahoo!.

The new LAUNCH site will be the central place for music fans of all types by delivering music and music-related content from thousands of new and established artists including Lenny Kravitz, No Doubt and U2. Music content and services will be deeply embedded throughout the Yahoo! network, sending users directly to the LAUNCH property to experience music.

With a click on the “Music” button on Yahoo!’s homepage, consumers will gain access to the world’s largest collection of on-demand music videos and be able to listen to Internet radio stations customized to their own tastes through LAUNCHcast. Fans can listen to and download music; watch artist interviews; access exclusive artist features, music news, photos, chart information and album reviews.

The new music property will be run by LAUNCH Media co-founders Dave Goldberg and Bob Roback, who will continue to drive Yahoo!’s dedication to provide music fans with a compelling and comprehensive music experience, while providing a valuable marketing platform for record labels, artists and advertisers.

LAUNCH will provide artists and labels extensive promotional opportunities to leverage the large audience of active users on Yahoo!, to help generate album sales and promote concerts. LAUNCH has a dedicated sales force committed to creating solutions for its advertising and marketing partners, which will assist in building strong associations between their brands and music consumers. LAUNCH will also market music-related services, such as pressplay, to its music consumers.
