Today kicked off with a Bang Bang…because Green Day just dropped a new song, and it was a shot heard round the music world. A song this loud and in-your-face from the reigning kings of punk needs to be heard—particularly in such politically charged times as this, and of course, we here at idobi had a lot to say about it. Read on to see what we made of “Bang Bang”, and let us know your thoughts on Twitter!
It rules. Finally a classic Green Day sound from the band. Not to say I liked the newer releases any less than the older stuff but in an era where we love nostalgia this hits the nail on the head for a nostalgic Green Day song. – Mike Fishkin
I completely agree! I love the throwback to their old sound and I think the name of their new album goes right along with it. Definitely looking forward to hearing more on this album. – Eli McDonald
I’m stoked on it. America hasn’t been this politically charged in a very long time and Green Day are true punks not just in sound but subject matter so this return couldn’t be better timed. I love bands like Blink 182 and Simple Plan because they’re fun but Green Day has the edge and anger you have to get out sometimes. – Hannah Hines
Green Day is best served during times of political unrest. I hate to say it, but tame Green Day just doesn’t do it for me. When Billy Joe Armstrong is annoyed and can’t get out of his head frustration becomes classic punk. I believe we need more middle fingers pointed at political correctness and the hypocrisy of society, and no punk does it quite as elegantly as Armstrong. I’m really looking forward to the new album—the first the band has self-produced since 2000. – Eddie Barella
I agree with Hannah and Eddie, politically charged Green Day is good Green Day. I think we need these type of statements with all the insane things happening in our world today. I love how it sounds like classic Green Day. I haven’t been excited about an album from them in a long time, but this song changes that. – Alex Mayes
