Nick & Aaron Carter's Mom Arrested In Beating Of Woman

Jane Carter, the 44-year-old mother of pop singers Aaron Carter and Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, was arrested and charged with battery in an alleged attack on her estranged husband’s girlfriend, Ginger Elrod. The alleged incident took place the evening of Tuesday, January 13th at Robert Carter’s Marathon, Florida home.

According to a report filed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Carter used a rock to break a window and then entered her husband’s home in the Florida Keys. She then made her way to the bedroom where her husband and Elrod were asleep. Jane dragged the 29-year-old Elrod out of bed by her hair and hit her with a remote control. In the report, police officers also said they spoke to Aaron’s 16-year-old twin Angel, who was a witness to the alleged incident. Angel told police that she observed Jane “physically beating” Ms. Elrod. Jane Carter was released early Wednesday morning. Robert Carter told the Miami Herald on Friday, January 16 that Elrod is not pressing charges, but “restraining orders are in place.”

Last month, Aaron Carter claimed that his mother took more than $100,000 from his bank account without his permission, and he would seek legal emancipation as a result. Aaron and his parents reportedly resolved their financial differences in a meeting on Sunday, January 11. Jane and Robert had managed their son’s career together for 10 years but separated in March. Jane is scheduled for a February 3 arraignment on the battery charge.

Adding to the Carter family’s problems is a lawsuit filed against Robert Carter by entertainment manager Eliot Weisman for libel and breach of contract. Weisman claims he introduced Aaron Carter’s parents to the William Morris Agency, but was then cut out of Aaron’s career. Robert Carter told the Miami Herald, “There may have been an agreement on Jane’s part. There was never agreement on my part or Aaron’s part.” In May 2003, Carter, has announced that her company, Spectra Management, had combined forces with Weisman’s Artist Services to oversee management of her son’s career. Weisman previously managed legendary stars such as Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and Sammy Davis Jr.

Weisman is asking for nearly $75,000 and the one third of all management fees he is owed for the time he was working with Aaron.
