Morissette Sets Europe Tour, L.A. Club Gigs

Alanis Morissette is not letting a contract dispute with her label prevent her from hitting the road to try out some new songs.

The Canadian pop singer will begin a 12-country tour of European festivals, arenas and clubs in Nuremberg, Germany on June 1, which also happens to be her 27th birthday.

She will warm up with two shows at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theater on May 25 and 26, her publicist announced Thursday.

Tickets for the El Rey shows will be available exclusively at http://www.alanismorissette.com on May 13 at 10 a.m. PDT. The El Rey holds about 700 people.

Morissette will also play a Canada Day show in her Ottawa hometown on July 1.

The European tour will run through July 15, and will “showcase some new material which may be included on her next release,” according to a statement.

Morissette, who released her last studio album, “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie,” in November 1998, has finished a follow-up, but has not delivered the tapes to her Maverick Records label. She reportedly wants a better deal with Maverick, a Warner Bros.-based imprint run by Madonna.

Morissette’s first European show will be at the Rock am Ring festival in Nuremberg on June 1 and June 2. She will then travel to gigs in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, France, England, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. Three of the shows, including a June 12 stop at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire club in London, are sold-out.
