Aerosmith are the second artists to achieve “icon” status, as the band will be the subject of mtvICON, an annual show/event honoring one band or recording for its significant contribution to music, music video and pop culture.
Last year, the show paid tribute to Janet Jackson. She will open this year’s show with an Aerosmith testimonial. Kid Rock and Pink are the first two artists to sign on to reinterpret classic Aerosmith songs, with more artists to be added. Now in their thirtieth year, Aerosmith themselves will close the show with a performance of their own.
The show will be taped on April 14th in Los Angeles and air on MTV on April 17th.
