Jane’s Addiction are finalizing plans for a summer reunion tour, which looks to be part of a roving festival frontman Perry Farrell is organizing.
“We’re going to be taking out a show. It’s probably going to have different influences coming together and creating an ensemble,” Jane’s guitarist Dave Navarro said, “more like a traveling circus – whereas in most circuses there isn’t much of a headliner, but there’s a lot of things. Some people like the trapeze. Some people like the clowns.”
Management for Jane’s Addiction said the band might also tour separately from the festival, which has taken on the same name as many past Farrell projects, Jubilee. Farrell’s resume also includes co-founding the Lollapalooza festival, which ran from 1991 to 1997.
Jubilee will feature a variety of bands and DJs playing both rock and electronic music, a spokesperson for the festival said.
Jane’s Addiction have not performed together since their Relapse Tour four years ago. Reunion rumors flared earlier this year when it was announced the band would headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 28. An April 25 warm-up show at the Santa Barbara Bowl is also scheduled.
Original Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery declined to join the reunion, according to the Los Angeles Times. And although Coachella organizers said Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea would perform with the band as he did in 1997, Navarro said Martyn Le Noble – who played bass in Farrell and Jane’s drummer Stephen Perkins’ Porno for Pyros project – will instead fill the void.
“It’s kind of cool. We have two-thirds of Porno and two-thirds of Jane’s in the same band,” Navarro said.
Farrell and Navarro will use the shows to promote their solo debuts, both due June 19. Farrell’s Song Yet to Be Sung mixes elements of his rock roots with his foray into DJing. Navarro said his Trust No One is less guitar-oriented than fans might expect.
No dates have been announced, but Navarro said they are looking at hitting the road in July and going until mid-August. “Right now we’re just rehearsing and kind of getting our chops together,” he said.
