Interpol's Fans Are About To Get 'Evil'

After Interpol ring in the new year, the quartet with a penchant for wearing black will bestow upon its fans a touch of evil.

“Evil” is poised to be the next single off Interpol’s latest album, Antics, according to a Matador Records spokesperson. It follows the band’s current single, “Slow Hands.” A video was shot earlier this month, before the group left for its European tour, and is currently being edited. The clip and the radio single are expected to surface in mid-January.

Directed by photographer Charlie White, the clip marks the first time the photogenic band won’t star in its own video. Instead, the protagonist will be a “Sesame Street”-style puppet created by the same animatronics wizards who worked on the films “Hellboy” and the forthcoming “Fantastic Four.” Injured and barely alive following a tragic accident, the puppet “sings” the lyrics to “Evil” to dramatize the song’s theme of losing one’s self after a trauma.

Interpol will interrupt their European trek to perform at two radio-sponsored festivals in the U.S. – one on December 10 in San Francisco and the other on December 11 in Universal City, California. They then return overseas for another half-dozen shows. Following a break for the holidays, Interpol will be in Australia and Japan when “Evil” rises on the radio. A North American tour is in the works for February.
