Hip-hop veteran and former Brand Nubian frontman **Grand Puba **is set to release his third solo offering, Understand This, on October 23. The collection will be released by Puba’s Rising Son Records, which is distributed by Koch Records. The set features appearances from Puba’s Brand Nubian bandmates Sadat X and Lord Jamar, as well as newcomers Tiffany Johnson and the Restless.

Puba recorded his first album, 1988’s Dynamite, as a member of the Masters Of Ceremony. In 1990, Puba contributed to the album One For All as one-fourth of Brand Nubian, which also comprised Sadat X, Lord Jamar, and DJ Alamo. One For All was critically acclaimed, but Puba soon left the group to pursue a solo career.

In 1992, Puba released his first solo effort, Reel To Reel, which spawned the hit “360.” Puba returned in 1995 with his sophomore set, 2000. Although the album was a disappointment, the song “I Like It” became a hit. Puba reunited with Brand Nubian in 1998 for the album Foundation.

The tentative tracklisting for Understand This includes: “Grand Pu,” “All Day,” “What U Gonna Do For Me” featuring Tiffany Johnson, “Don’t Lie To Me,” “What’s Up Wit It” featuring Tiffany Johnson and Sadat X, “Dreams,” “Understand This,” “Baby Mama Drama,” “Up & Down,” “What U Want” featuring Tiffany Johnson, “Keep It Movin” featuring Lord Jamar, and “Spazz Out” featuring the Restless.
