Frequency(TM) Mixes It Up With Music, Video Content From Major Recording Artists

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today that four additional major recording artists have agreed to provide music and video content for the upcoming interactive musical game, Frequency(TM), exclusively on the PlayStation ®2 computer entertainment system. Setting the stage for the next generation in gaming, Frequency lets gamers take part in the music revolution by mixing and re-mixing songs from top bands in a unique new addictive gaming experience.

Adding some exclusive tracks and unreleased footage to the previously released lineup of top artists, the newly signed bands include No Doubt, Jungle Brothers, Curve and Akrobatik, bringing the total to 17 premier bands featured on the soundtrack. Along with these newly signed additions, other participating music acts in Frequency include Paul Oakenfold, Roni Size, Lo Fidelity All Stars, Fear Factory, The Crystal Method, BT, Juno Reactor, DJ Q-Bert, Dub Pistols, Orbital, Powerman 5000, Meat Beat Manifesto and Funkstar De Luxe.

“The variety of bands on the soundtrack, addictive gameplay and wide appeal for gamers and music lovers alike, makes Frequency a perfect hit for the holidays,” said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.

Many original tracks were created for Frequency. Some of the music acts include: No Doubt, with a special remix of “Ex-Girlfriend,” Jungle Brothers with an exclusive song title, “What’s the Five-O?,” “Worst Mistake,” a new track from the British eclectic music duo, Curve and the exclusive song “Exterminator” by Akrobatik, an underground hip hop band from Boston. These artists are among nine acts that have contributed original tracks for Frequency.

“We were excited to contribute an exclusive song for Frequency that combines diverse beats with visual graphics harmonized together in one unique entertainment experience for all ages,” said Afrika (Nathaniel Hall) from the Jungle Brothers. Cohort, Mike G. (Michael Small) added, “Frequency allows gamers to experience our music one step further through fun and creative gameplay.”

Developed by Harmonix, Frequency is an addictive game that will keep gamers and music lovers in tune with the most immersive musical gameplay experience ever. Combining more than 25 hits from multiple genres such as Electronica, House, Hip-Hop, Trance, Drum and Bass and Alternative Rock, Frequency offers a breadth of music to appeal to all audiences.

In Frequency, players are challenged to mix/remix songs in eight arenas using many different instrument types such as drums, bass, guitar and vocals. Starting with one instrument, such as drums, players must hit the appropriate buttons at the right time in order to match the rhythm of the song, and incorrect timing will decrease players’ time bar. Once this instrument is successfully mixed, players can move on to another instrument, such as guitar and continue through all the instruments, performing all instrumental tracks before the timing bar runs out. If successful in keeping the tempo of the original song, players are rewarded with the option to freestyle and create their own music.

Four different game modes allow up to four players to mix music, play against each other in an attempt to accurately perform music faster than opponents, or just play solo remix mode.

The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has rated Frequency “E” for Everyone. For more information about the ERSB visit www.esrb.com.
