Curb Records Celebrates a Banner Year Capped Off With a 'Plumb' Signing

Curb Records has announced the signing of recording artist Plumb. “I’m really excited,” says Plumb. “After having lunch with Mike Curb and his wife Linda, I knew that Curb Records was the place I needed to be and I feel very comfortable with my decision.”

Music-lovers and critics alike have embraced Plumb’s music resulting in a string of hits at CCM radio including “Here With Me,” “Phobic,” “God Shaped Hole” and “Stranded”. Those releases went on to sell in excess of 250,000 units. In 2000, Plumb took home a prestigious Dove Award in the Alternative/Modern Rock Album category for the album “candycoatedwaterdrops.” As an artist, Plumb’s music has featured in such movies as “Drive Me Crazy,” “Brokedown Palace,” “For The Love Of The Game” and “Loser”. She also co-wrote Mandy Moore’s “I Wanna Be With You” which was featured in the movie “Center Stage” and a hit on the Hot 100. “I’m thrilled about Plumb’s new music and I believe it will be embraced by a very broad audience,” says Bryan Stewart, of Curb’s A & R department. “We anticipate that her music will have great cross- over appeal to several different formats.”

Most recently, her songs have been recorded by a diverse array of acts including Jennifer Paige, Spanish artist Paloma Marquez and dance-act Plummet. Plummet has enjoyed considerable success at rhythm-crossover radio with their cover of Plumb’s “Damaged” while Paloma Marquez’s Spanish-language version of “Here With Me” will be featured in the international movie “Inspiracion”.

Curb’s Christian division has grown substantially over the past two years. LeAnn Rimes’ “Inspirational Songs/You Light Up My Life” is currently celebrated as the biggest selling Christian album of the era. While, the dynamic Michael English is back in the studio already working on a Christmas album with Brown Bannister for 2002, and Dove Award winner, Selah, is enjoying brisk sales and their third straight week in the number one spot of the CCM Inspirational Top Twenty Chart. Says Bob Bender, Director of Sales, whose primary focus is in the Christian Radio and Retail markets, “Selah’s continued success is a valuable asset in setting a firm foundation for us in the Christian Marketplace.”

Jonathan Pierce is also in the studio working on a new album with famed producer Brian Rawling (Enrique Iglesias, Cher, Andrea Bocelli,) while Jeff Carson has both found success on both Country and Christian radio with his hit “Real Life” (#1 this week on the PowerSource Chart.) On the SoundScan YTD Top Christian Singles Chart, Curb’s “God Bless The U.S.A.” by Lee Greenwood and “God Bless America” by LeAnn Rimes hold the top two positions.

Curb Chairman Mike Curb is very optimistic about this branch of the company. “There has never been a more exciting time to be involved in Christian music. Today’s Christian artists have the ability to be competitive in several genres of music, and the quality and quantity of available talent is overwhelming. I find it very rewarding to watch this division of Curb Records grow and become competitive in the market place.”
