Britney Spears’ new Austin Powers In Goldmember-themed Pepsi Twist television commercial made its debut on Sunday (May 19) during the finale of Survivor: Marquesas on CBS. In the commercial, which is set at a crowded party, Powers (Mike Myers) discovers that Spears’ Pepsi isn’t really what it seems – it’s a Pepsi Twist. Powers then uses his astounding investigative skills to determine Spears’ true identity, uncovering more than he bargained for.
In the next several days the spot will begin to air on CBS, FOX, MTV, NBC and other television networks. The Pepsi Twist spot was created by Pepsi’s longtime advertising agency, BBDO New York. Pepsi Twist’s marketing campaign with Austin Powers In Goldmember will also include Internet advertising, in-store promotions, and an exclusive interactive experience in Simon Property Group malls nationwide.
Dawn Hudson, the senior vice president of strategy and marketing for Pepsi-Cola North America said in a statement, “Moviegoers are looking forward to the new Austin Powers In Goldmember opening July 26th and this commercial will help generate some of the early buzz. We’ll run it on big programming – during May sweeps and during the NBA Playoffs – giving enormous exposure to both Pepsi Twist and Austin Powers In Goldmember.”
In related news, Myers will appear as Austin Powers in Spears’ music video for her next single, “Boys,” which was produced by the Neptunes. The track is both the next single from Spears’ latest album Britney, and the first release from the upcoming Austin Powers In Goldmember soundtrack due July 16.
Spears will embark on the second leg of her Dream Within A Dream tour this week, with a two-night stand at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on May 24 and 25. The tour, which is presented by Pepsi, will visit some 30 North American cities before it wraps on July 22 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Nikka Costa (May 24 through June 16) and pop/R&B trio 3rd Faze (May 28 through June 12) will be among Spears’ special guests on the tour.
