Britney, Metallica, Ashanti, Hilary Duff To Perform At American Music Awards

Britney Spears and Metallica will reprise their roles as awards-show performers when they hit the stage for the 31st annual American Music Awards, taking place at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium on November 16, according to a show spokesperson.

Ashanti, Hilary Duff and Alan Jackson round out the preliminary list of performers. Additional artists are expected to be announced later.

Fourteen artists are tied for the most award nominations, including Ashanti, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, Eminem and Beyoncé. Each artist received two nods in 20 categories.

Ashanti’s two nods came for Favorite Female Artist – Hip-Hop/R&B and Favorite Album – Hip-Hop/R&B for her Chapter II. Fellow performers Metallica garnered a nod for Favorite Artist – Alternative Music, and Jackson nabbed a nom for Favorite Male Artist – Country Music. Duff, who recently released the chart-topping Metamorphosis, and Spears, who did not have a new album out in the past year, were not nominated. Britney will release her next album, Get in the Zone, on November 18.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the American Music Awards will be broadcast live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
