Florida punk rockers New Found Glory are gearing up to release their first DVD, The Story So Far, next month.
Due October 15th on MCA, the DVD features live footage showing the quintet’s rise from playing backyard shindigs to European tours. Also included are interviews and a number of videos including “Hit or Miss,” “Friends Over You,” and new single “Head Over You,” which features a cameo from Vandals bassist Joe Escalante.
“There’s this company called Troma and they do like B-horror movies, but cheesy, almost like silly, so we got them to do the special effects on our video,” says singer Jordan Pundik. “Did you ever see those old [machines where you] turn the crank and you watch a little movie? In some shots our limbs [are] getting cut off and everything. It’s a silly thing.”
The band will be promoting the DVD and its latest album, Sticks and Stones, on a U.S. tour which kicks off October 3rd at the Los Angeles Palladium. Despite the recent success of “Friends Over You,” the band, touring with support from Finch and Something Corporate, chose to play smaller venues to keep ticket prices down.
“A lot of the venues are so expensive to have shows that the only way we can play there is if we charge $25, and we’re not gonna do that,” guitarist Chad Gilbert says. “We can’t charge our fans that much. So we’ll keep the tickets low, we’ll play smaller venues and do two nights.”
New Found Glory have already begun writing new songs for Sticks’ follow-up, and they will flesh them out while on the road. “The thing is with us, we’re always on tour,” Gilbert says. “It’s non-stop. Right after the tour we have to record, so touring is the only time we have to write music. I think we’re scheduled to record late next summer. [So we’ll have] something out by Christmas [2003].”
